Livestock buildings have huge indoor surface areas, which require efficient solutions to provide animals with thermally comfortable and hygienic conditions. It is therefore crucial to choose thermal insulation materials which can be safely cleaned with pressure cleaners.

 

CEILINGS IN LIVESTOCK BUILDINGS

Livestock buildings, including barns, cowsheds, pigsties and chicken houses, have an indoor soffit ceilings made from rigid PIR foam in gas-tight cladding. The soffit provides a stable indoor climate for animal husbandry. It resists corrosion and degradation by organic compounds and, of course, performs well in daily use and is easy to maintain.

It is critical to be able to clean the soffit surface with normal pressure washers. A good thermal insulation product must feature a design which permits pressure washing with water, without any risk of damage. THERMAL COMFORT COMES FIRST

How do the panels work? A PIR sandwich panel comprises two types of structural layer. The superior thermal insulating power comes from the sandwich panel core, which is made of rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam. The thermal insulating power is described by the lambda, or thermal conductivity coefficient. The lambda value of EPS, an extremely popular thermal insulator, is 0.037 W/mK. The lambda value of PIR is 0.023 W/mK. This means that Thermano Agro provides double the thermal insulating power of EPS.

PRESSURE WASHING

The second structural layer type is the gas-tight cladding. The gas-tight cladding is designed first to retain the initial form of the pentane gas bubbles (which guarantee the constant thermal insulation performance), but the other features of this structural layer are more interesting to those involved in animal husbandry: its durability and the non-absorbance of water. The gas-tight cladding is made from several layers of aluminium, which have excellent performance in withstanding high-pressure jets of water. The specially designed structure of the cladding also prevents microbial growth, which means better resistance to infestation by fungi.

FIBRE GLASS REINFORCED SANDWICH PANELS

The Thermano Agro soffit sandwich panels are now available in a version with an additional shell reinforced with glass fibre, a material commonly used in the building of yachts and boats.
